Reviews Are In: Wolverine is a Turd

Category : News

Fox has tried to keep reviews from coming out, but they couldn’t stop the release date of May 1.  X-Men Origins: Wolverine is finally out and critics have seen it.  I don’t think Fox will be able to blame the work print leak for bad box office returns.  Looks like they have another stinker on their hands.  Is it at least better than X-men 3?

Read the reviews and make up your own mind.

“A transparent attempt to squeeze a faltering franchise for its last drop of box-office juice.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

“If you think all you need to enjoy a superhero film is action, try suffering through Wolverine and Sabretooth’s endless, pointless attempts to beat each other up.” Katey Rich, CinemaBlend.com

“A couple of halfway decent action scenes do little to distract from the story’s mounting ludicrousness, or a conclusion that’s only a little more satisfying than a projector breakdown. Maybe.” Keith Phipps, AV Club

“A chaotic headbanger, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is saved from pure flat-footed blockbuster franchise adequacy by six things, three of them on Hugh Jackman’s left hand, three on his right.” Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

“I have been powerfully impressed by film versions of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Iron Man and the Iron Giant. I wouldn’t even walk across the street to meet Wolverine.” Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

“X-Men Origins is worse than Elektra.  It is worse than Ghost Rider.  It is worse than the 2004 version of The Punisher.  It is worse than the 1989 version of The Punisher.”Matt Goldberg, Collider

“Can everyone stop making moody origin stories now, please” Nick De Semlyen, Empire Magazine

So, how does X-Men Origins: Wolverine stack up with the previous X-Men flicks via the “Tomato-meter?” Check it out:

X-Men: 80% positive reviews

X2: X-Men United: 88% positive reviews

X-Men: The Last Stand: 56% positive reviews

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: 36% positive reviews since Thursday (This number will be updated on Monday)

Things are not looking good for Wolverine.  To be honest, I’m really bummed it turned out so bad.  I’ll probably still see it.  Maybe not in the theater, but I’ll rent it someday.  In the meantime, I think I’ll watch X-men & X-men 2 on Blu-Ray this weekend.
