geekArticle. Date Rape as Comedy

Category : geekArticle!

[In Observe and Report's Red Band Trailer] after a night of drinking and drugging, Rogen escorts a half-unconscious Faris (Brandi) to his home and the trailer later cuts to a scene in which Rogen is having sex with the incapacitated Brandi. Nice. When he hesitates, however, we hear a slurred voice pipe up with “Why are you stopping, motherf*****?” Guilt assuaged, right? I mean he’s not raping her — she’s totally into it … right? Well, I’ll leave my opinion for a little later, but it seems like the answer at large has been a big fat whopping ‘No’.

['Observe and Report' Sparks Date-Rape Debate by Jessica Barnes, Cinematical]

There is a discussion going on right now about what’s going to far in a comedy.  Unfortunately, it involved a movie that I was (until now) anxious to see.  It really bums me out that even the hint of Date Rape is being used as a jab at dark comedy.  This is a serious thing that happens far to often in real life.  So, maybe it’s a good thing we’re talking about it.

Corey Haim Interviewed by Slashfilm

Category : News

corey-haim

Ever wonder what happened to Corey Haim? Well, Slashfilm’s Hunter Stephenson caught up with him to talk about his role in Crank 2 and the possibility of Lost Boys 3.

Here’s a sample:

[Slashfilm's Hunter Stephenson] I’ve spoken to a few of the people involved with the sequel behind-the-scenes [of Lost Boys 2]. I still don’t get it how out turned out so shitty. And you agree that it sucked…

Corey Haim: Man, absolutely. No offense to the crew and cast. They did a great job.

So, now there’s talk about Lost Boys 3. It seems to be happening.

Corey Haim: There’s always ideas being kicked around. There’s talk about number four and number five. The Lost Girls. Just different people at the office. But it’s too late. They should have done it years ago, or just done it properly. It’s way too late. That’s just my opinion.

Controversy Alert! First it started with Pride and Prejudice being zombiefied by writer Seth Grahame-Smith with his book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Now you can toy with your soul and zombiefy the most sacred of all texts, the King James Bible.

The Stinque Zombie Bible is an open-source collaborative project where you can add zombies to your favorite Bible passage.  Here are some examples:

Phil Spector Found Guilty of Murder

Category : Music, News

spector-fro

Legendary Music Producer, Phil Spector has been found guilty of the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson.  It seems like this trial has been going on forever, so it’s good to see there’s some closure.

Six years after Clarkson was found dead in the foyer of Spector’s mansion, the diminutive 69-year-old now finds himself in a Los Angeles jail cell after he was convicted on Monday. His sentencing is scheduled for May 29 where he faces at least 18 years to life in prison barring a successful appeal.

Spector, wearing one of his signature suits with a long black coat, red tie and red handkerchief, had no obvious reaction. His 28-year-old wife, Rachelle, sobbed as the verdict was announced. Spector was led out of the courtroom by sheriff’s deputies and remanded to jail immediately. [Billboard]
