New DVD/Blu Ray Podcast in the Works – The GeekCouch: Collector’s Edition

Category : DVD/BD Releases, News, Podcast

This is just a “formal” announcement of my new podcast “The GeekCouch: Collector’s Edition” that will record it’s first episode this weekend.

I was searching for a podcast specifically geared toward new Blu Ray and DVD releases and didn’t find any at all.  This will be my answer to that.

I’m currently searching for a capable/likeable/intelligent/funny co-host, so stay tuned for that announcement.  I may just have a guest host every week, or may have a couple co hosts that rotate throughout the month.  We’ll see.

This is an exciting opportunity and I’m looking forward to sharing it with all of you!

12-Year-Old Killed By Train While Listening to iPod

Category : News

While listening to his iPod (really, it could have been any portable music device), 12-year-old Caesar Muloki walked directly in front of a train and did not hear the New Jersey Transit train’s horn.  Witnesses say he was running along the tracks when he decided to dart across, while the engineer pulled the emergency brake and sounded the train’s horn.  Caesar did not see or hear the train and was fatally struck.

With so many people spending so much of their day with earbuds in their ears, I’m actually suprised this doesn’t happen more often.  However, walking on train tracks while listening to loud music isn’t the best combination in the first place.

Platinum Dunes Sets Us All Up For Disappointment with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Remake

Category : News

Platinum Dunes is making a name for themselves with Remakes, Reboots, Redo’s or whatever they’re called.

Platinum Dunes 8-Step Film Making Formula:

Step 1: Pay for the rights of a beloved genre property.

Step 2: Hire an unimaginative team of screenwriters.

Step 3: Hire a music video director.

Step 4: Rent/Buy the biggest fog machine possible.

Step 5: Watch Michael Bay masturbate.

Step 6: Provide a half ass, watchable, yet immediately forgettable movie.

Step 7: Watch fanboy/girls cry into their palms and then venomously bitch and moan via the internet.

Step 8: Wipe collective asses with handfuls of $100 bills.

That 8 Step Formula will be applied to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property.  *Shrug*

Read Steve Jobs’ Email at “Sent by Steve Jobs”

Category : News

The recent “Battle Against Porn” that Steve Jobs has launched for the iPad and iPhone mediums has made me curious about the inner workings of Steve Jobs.  While I’m not necessarily “Pro-Porn” (I have personal feelings about the Porn Industry, Porn itself and it’s negative effects on relationships and marriages), I think that creating devices that strictly block those types of sites or content is a bit ridiculous.  I think the user should decide what types of content needs to be blocked from certain devices, not the company that creates the device.

All that said, I stumbled across a website called sentbystevejobs.com.  We now have a repository for all emails sent by Steve Jobs himself.  It makes for an interesting insight into the outspoken CEO of Apple.

Iconic Fantasy Illustrator, Frank Frazetta Dies at 82

Category : News

The standard that all Fantasy Illustrations try to live up to, Frank Frazetta, has died at the age of 82.    Responsible for the iconic depictions of Conan the Barbarian and John Carter of Mars, Frazetta made a living painting muscle bound brutes, dragons and scantily clad curvy women.

Mr. Frazetta informed an entire generation of fantasy geeks like myself.  His painting of Conan the Barbarian are what I gravitated to the most.  Fire and Ice is his most direct contribution to the animation world, with the help of Ralph Bakshi.

RIP Frank Frazetta, your imagination and beautiful contributions to the Fantasy genre will be missed.

The Dark Crystal Sequel Lands The Spierig Brothers

Category : News

One of my favorite movies as a kid isn’t getting re-booted, it’s getting a sequel! On top of that, it’s going to be directed by the insane duo responsible for Daybreakers. The Power Of The Dark Crystal will be a direct sequel to 1982′s surreal Jim Henson/Frank Ox helmed film The Dark Crystal. I remember loving it for the creatures and it’s dark tone.

May the Fourth Be With You!

Category : News

Let’s all remember, and light a candle for the Original Trilogy. In our minds it remains unaltered by shitty CGI, Han shoots first, and we can sing with the Ewoks.

Yub Nub and May the Force Be With You All.
