jtpic

The name Hawthorne Heights has never done anything for me. Was never a fan, will probably never be. In fact, when I first saw this press release, I let out a huge “MEEEEH.”

BUT, I can admit when I’m wrong about something. JT Woodruff’s song “Field Medicine” from his upcoming solo release is pretty fucking good.

Here’s his video and press release regarding his upcoming LP out in March 18th via InVogue Records:

Merriment’s Debut Album “Sway” Gets April 8th Release on Equal Vision Records

merriment

Equal Vision Records has announced that Merriment‘s debut album Sway will release on April 8th during their stint with siblings (and cousin) Eisley. Merriment is Christie and Colin DuPree, brother and sister to Chauntelle, Sherri, Stacy, and Weston DuPree and cousins to Garron DuPree who all form the band Eisley. I’ve never been a huge fan of Eisley, but hearing only two of Merriment’s songs has me hooked. Look for a full album review within the next couple weeks.

Sub Pop Announces “Record Store Day” Releases

SP_RSD_2014

Record Store Day will be here before we know it and labels have started announcing their special releases for that day. We will post more announcements from other labels as they trickle in.

What is Record Store Day? This is the one day each year that all of the independently-owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases, and various promotional products, are made exclusively for the day, and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, DJs spinning records, and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday of every April.  http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home

Deep Elm Records Sign Cinematic Post-rock Duo U137

u137

Adam Tornblad and Oscar Gullbrandsen of Deep Elm’s Moonlit Sailor have a side project called U137. They are yet another “cinematic post-rock” artist that the label has signed along with Moonlit Sailor, Lights & Motion, and Dorena. As a long time fan of Explosions In The Sky, I’m not complaining…though I do worry about over-saturation. The album, Dreamer On The Run is set to release on August 20th, 2013. Stay tuned to The Backstage Pass podcast as I’m sure I’ll be featuring them soon.

Oh My Goodness Releases Video For Their Song “OMG OMG”

omg

Videos like this make me mourn for the loss of MTV (OK kids…that reality show channel you watch used to be a TV station that played music videos 24/7. It was awesome!). Check out Oh My Goodness‘ video for their song “OMG OMG”

Pachinko Pictures created the video, and here’s what they had to say about it:

“The video uses a modified slit-scan photography system we built in After Effects to achieve all those super weird stretches. But instead of pulling the image apart in the traditional way (line-by-line, top-to-bottom) we built a system that lets us divide up the image into concentric shapes centred on parts of the performance that we wanted to keep in sync with the music, like Therese’s mouth.”

If you dig this song, make sure you grab their EP over at their Bandcamp page. It’s only $6.
