Chris Hemsworth Rockin’ the Thor: First Picture Released

Category : News, Pictures

Yahoo! Movies got a hold of a first look at Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of Marvel’s classic character. I’d have to say I like what I see so far. Final thoughts will come when I see Chris Hemsworth in action via a trailer. I do think it looks a bit to “brand new” but I totally trust Branagh with this.

Comedian Marc Maron Interviews Robin Williams And Provides a Rare, Honest Glimpse at an Comic Icon

Category : News

Comedian Marc Maron is quickly becoming one of my favorite comedians.  He’s been kicking around for a long time and was getting his start when Robin Williams and Sam Kinison were hot young comics tearing up LA.  For his podcast WTF, Marc Maron decided to track Robin Williams down for an interview.  Williams agreed, and what followed was an hour of pure, genuine honesty and one of the most compelling interviews I’ve ever heard.

Maron is extremely happy with the interview and said:

“No matter what your opinions may be of him he was, and might still be, one of the biggest comedy stars in the world. I was nervous because I didn’t want to get caught up in the Williams riff cyclone and be blown out without getting a real interview– a genuine conversation with him. We sat down for about an hour and he stayed still and focused and open. This is a rare chat with a huge star.”

Listen to the full interview here.

Star Wars Blu Ray Announcement Greeted With “Meh.” and Shrugs

Category : News

Star Wars if finally coming to Blu Ray.  That announcement was met with a collective nerd shrug as there was no announcement regarding the un-enhanced Original Trilogy appearing on the Blu Ray set.  Do we really want to see bad CGI “enhancements” continuing to plague the Star Wars Trilogy? And does anyone care to see the Prequels and all their wooden acting and bad CGI in High Def? George Lucas thinks so!

Roger Ebert Commits the Cardinal Sin of Film Criticism by Spoiling Kick-Ass

Category : News

First off, let’s get this out of the way.  I am not a critic.  I don’t make any money writing about movies.  GeekCouch exists because of my love of movies and my ignorant belief that some people give a shit about what I think.

One thing that I make a point to do, both in writing about and talking about movies, is NEVER under any circumstance to spoil key points of a movie.  Usually a critic whom I have immense respect for, Roger Ebert unleashed his VERY negative, spoiler filled, and unfair review of the new movie Kick-Ass entitled “A child kills and is bloodied, hahahaha“.

Refused’s “The Shape of Punk to Come” Gets the 3 Disc Deluxe Treatment

Category : Music, News

One of the best albums in over a decade will finally get the deluxe treatment it deserves.  Refused unleashed the album The Shape of Punk to Come in 1998 and it changed the landscape of hardcore and punk for the better. (That is until bands like My Chemical Romance and Hot Topic ruined it again.)

Listening to The Shape of Punk to Come over 10 years later, it still seems ahead of it’s time.  For fans like myself, June 8th can’t come soon enough.  Epitaph will be releasing the 3 disc set.  It will include the original album, a previously unreleased live album recorded in Sweden in 1998, and a DVD of the breakup documentary Refused Are Fucking Dead.

Shortly after Refused released The Shape of Punk to Come the band broke up.  Frontman Dennis Lyxzén later formed the (International) Noise Conspiracy.
