DVD/Blu Ray Releases for 10/27/2009

Buying movies is almost a dangerous obession with me.  I love it, and probably have spent more money on movies in my lifetime than any sane person.  At least I’m not spending money on heroine.

New Movie Tuesday is my favorite day of the week.  Here are this week’s releases as well as my recommendations.

Being the film snob I am, I will recommend the Blu Ray versions of these flicks if available.

Must Buy:

Night of the Creeps [Blu-ray]

Night of the Creeps [Blu-ray]

List Price: $24.95
Amazon Price: $16.49

8 new or used available from $16.49

Average customer review:

Night of the Creeps is this weeks MUST BUY. Don’t think about it, go to the store, plunk down your cash and get it. It’s never had a DVD release and the Blu Ray transfer is pretty stunning.
Stargate 15th Anniversary Edition
Stargate 15th Anniversary Edition [Blu-ray]
List Price: $29.99
Amazon Price: $17.49

19 new or used available from $15.00 Average customer review:

If you’re a fan of Stargate like I am, but were holding off due to the lousy initial Blu Ray release, this is the version to buy. The picture is the same, but the audio is lossless and there are some tasty special features.
Recommended Rentals

The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue [Blu-ray] Orphan [Blu-ray] Monty Python: Almost The Truth [Blu-ray]
The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue [Blu-ray]
$15.99
This is one of the Horror Classics I haven’t seen. I’ve heard great things and am looking forward to seeing it.
Orphan [Blu-ray]
$23.99
This is a hit or miss with some people. But I’m intrigued, and I’ve heard Isabelle Fuhrman is fantastic as the crazy girl.
Monty Python: Almost The Truth [Blu-ray]
$23.99
This is a lengthy documentary on Monty Python. Almost a buy, but I want to see it first.
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure (Two Disc + BD Live) [Blu-ray] Tales from the Darkside: The Second Season Whatever Works [Blu-ray]
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure [Blu-ray]
$23.49
Of all the straight to DVD crap Disney puts out, you have to admire the Tinkerbell movies. My daughter eats these up.
Tales from the Darkside: The Second Season
$29.99
Not purchase worthy, but if you want to get in the Halloween mood, Tales From the Darkside is a good place to start.
Whatever Works [Blu-ray]
$25.49
Starring Larry David and directed by Woody Allen. I’m in.
Battlestar Galactica: The Plan [Blu-ray] Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (DVD + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]
Battlestar Galactica: The Plan [Blu-ray]
$22.49
Not satisfied with the Battlestar Galactica series finale? Not sure this will help, but hearing decent things.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs [Blu-ray]
$22.49
If you have kids and want to pass the time on a weekend, this is a harmless rental.
