Overpriced 3D Movie Tickets About to Get More Overpriced

Category : News, WTF?

If you didn’t feel like you were getting bent over by movie theaters enough with the higher cost of 3D movies, get ready to grab your ankles.

Regal Entertainment Group, Cinemark Holdings and AMC Entertainment will push 3D ticket prices higher, starting this weekend.  Hopefully this will burst the 3D gimmick bubble and we can get back to viewing movies without the migraines.

According to the Wall Street Journal:

So, not only are 3D prices being hiked up, IMAX prices will sky rocket also.  All this solidifies my intent on buying the largest LED-LCD TV I can find and enjoy standard non-migraine inducing flicks at home without feeling violated by the Movie Industry.

Marketing Fail: Avatar boasts to be “the greatest adventure of all time!”

Category : Uncategorized

Let’s get this out of the way. I love James Cameron’s movies. Aliens, Terminator 2, and The Abyss are 3 of my favorite movies of all time. However, I think the marketing for his new, highly anticipated “game changer” film, Avatar has jumped the shark by announcing in a recent TV spot that Avatar is “the greatest adventure of all time!”

I think the over-hype by the studios and James Cameron himself are casting bad Ju-Ju on the potential of the film. Costing an excess of $500 MILLION (after marketing expenses), Avatar has the potential to be one of the greatest movie gambles of all time. Disaster is easily on the horizon.

I’ll be in the theater with my 3D glasses on opening day, but let’s all try to keep the hype down. Avatar will most likely disappoint as the “the greatest adventure of all time,” but I think it will be a pretty enjoyable Sci Fi/Fantasy ride.

Avatar will be in theaters December 18, 2009.

4 Minute Avatar Featurette Aims to Fill in the Blanks

Category : Trailers

In order for more of us to drink the Avatar Kool Aide, a featurette has been released to hopefully quiet down the “Geek Hate” of James Cameron’s new “Visionary Masterpiece” Avatar.

It’s pretty interesting. I’m still looking forward to seeing Avatar in 3D with no pre-conceived expectations. Everything new I’ve seen has helped wash the bad taste of the first Teaser trailer that was rushed out earlier last month.

Movie Trailer: Avatar (Full Theatrical)

Category : Trailers

Yahoo! has the full theatrical trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar. I’m more sold than I was with the first trailer, but there’s so much hear that reminds me of so many other movies.

I’m not impressed with the plot, but dang the visuals look tasty.  I plan on catching this in 3D during a matinee showing, for sure.

Yahoo has the clip in HD, or you can watch the embed above.

Teaser Poster for Final Destination 4 Revealed

Category : Movie Posters, News

finaldestination4poster-thumb

For a teaser poster, I think this works.  But do we really need another Final Destination movie? I guess we do, Final Destination 2 has it’s moments, and is my favorite of the series.  And, David R. Ellis is back in the director’s chair, which is a plus.  But, like most horror franchises, it’s basically the same movie over and over again.

What’s the catch for The Final Destination (Final Destination 4)? 3D, of course! My Bloody Valentine 3D was a really fun theater experience.  However, 3D is not worth the migraines I get.  So, that’s not really a selling point for me.

Check out the poster and the plot synopsis after the jump.

3D Headaches Won’t Be Cured

Category : News

3dglasses

I have a love/hate relationship with 3D.  It looks cool, makes for a fun theater experience.  Seeing kids reach out in front of them to grab whatever is floating in front of their face makes me grin.

However, I get the biggest headache during/after seeing a 3D movie.  I call it “3D Headache” and the last one ruined my evening.  No, it wasn’t just that I saw My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Anyway, seems there is science to back up this reaction to 3D, and it’s not looking like the 3D Headache won’t be going away any time soon.
