DVD/Blu-ray Releases for 5/11/2010

Category : DVD/BD Releases

Buying movies is almost a dangerous obession with me. I love it, and probably have spent more money on movies in my lifetime than any sane person. At least I’m not spending money on heroine. New Movie Tuesday is my favorite day of the week. Here are this week’s releases as well as my recommendations. Being the film snob I am, I will recommend the Blu Ray versions of these flicks if available.

BUY IT

Daybreakers

From the wonderful example of “World Building” done right, to the post apocalyptic setting, and intense action, Daybreakers was a breath of fresh air for me.  Sure, it’s not the most original plot ever.  Plus, vampires are way overdone these days (fuck you, Twilight).  But from the first scene of this flick, I was hooked.  I left the theater wanting to watch this little piece of original genre entertainment again. [Amazon] [Netflix]

RENT IT

Product DetailsEdge of Darkness

Mel Gibson kicking ass again is a good thing, however I wish it was in a better movie.   Edge of Darkness does have enough of brooding kick ass Mel Gibson to get my rental approval, though.  At any rate, welcome back Mel! [Netflix]

SKIP IT

Legion

A failure on ALL levels of an interesting genre plot.  Rent The Prophecy with Christopher Walken instead. [Netflix]
