Confirmed Lip-Syncing on American Idol

Category : Music, News, TV

lip-sync

Last night, during the American Idol Results Show, when the contestants came out to sing their God-awful group performance I turned to my wife and speculated they were lip syncing.  I then sent out a message into the Twitterverse.

Well, today my speculations were confirmed with The New York Times article ‘Idol’ Group Numbers: Not So Live After All:

A spokesman for the producers of “American Idol” said as much on Wednesday, after assertions by a former “American Idol” contestant that the weekly group numbers, which are performed near the beginning of each week’s results show, appear to be using recorded vocals this year.

This is why I watch the show.  Even though there is actually one relevant artist this year, I love to make fun of the stupidity of the producers and judges.  You’d think we’d have learned from Milli Vanilli.  Well, at least we won’t see any Kanye West performances again.

Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman vs Sci Fi Mutants!

Category : News, Random Videos

Check out the first 5 minutes of Mutant Chronicles brought to us by Hulu.

Synopsis:

In the year 2707, war rages between earth’s four giant corporations as they battle over the planet’s dwindling resources. In an era marked by warfare and social regression, the earth is on the verge of ruin, destruction is everywhere; battles explode on every ravaged continent. Amidst heavy combat, an errant shell shatters an ancient buried seal releasing a horrific mutant army from its eternal prison deep within the earth. As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a single squad of soldiers descends into the earth to fulfill the ages-old prophesy of the Mutant Chronicles and save mankind.

Loosely based on the RPG by the same name, Mutant Chronicles is directed by Simon Hunter and written by Philip Eisner with an ensemble cast including Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman, Devon Aoki, Sean Pertwee, Benno Fürmann, Anna Walton, Tom Wu, Steve Toussaint, Luis Echegaray, and John Malkovich.

You can check out the full flick today on Video On Demand or try and catch it during its limited theatrical run on April 24th, 2009.  Or, just wait until the DVD release.

Rotten Tomatoes Has First Look At Neil Marshall’s Centurion

Category : News, Random Videos

centurion-olga

I’m a Neil Marshall fan.  He hooked me early on with Dog Soldiers.  A movie I bought on DVD used for $4 based on the cover alone.  Marines? Werewolves? I’m in.  Then with The Descent he showcased the ability to scare the hell out of me.  Finally, with Doomsday (a tribute of sorts to post-apocalyptic movies of the 80’s, trashed by critics) he let his inner-geek hang out.  I love Doomsday for what it is, so screw you critics and haters.

Now, Neil Marshall is showing his potential Epic side (and ability to leave the letter “D” out of his titles) with Centurion.  Set in 117 AD, Centurion tells the story of a group of Roman soldiers who must fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack.  It stars Michael Fassbender, Olga Kurylenko, Dominic West, and Imogen Poots.

Check out an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Centurion , courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes after the jump.

WTF? Nicolas Cage? The Sorcerers Apprentice?

Category : News, WTF?

This has been a good week for laughs directed at Nicolas Cage.  First, with yet another horrendous example of acting and hair in Knowing, now with horrendous hair and possible horrendous acting in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.  A live action film based on the story from Disney’s Fantasia.  Courtesty of JustJared, this photo shows Nicolas Cage filming a scene in a subway station with co-star Jay Baruchel.
