Buying movies is almost a dangerous obession with me. I love it, and probably have spent more money on movies in my lifetime than any sane person. At least I’m not spending money on heroine.

New Movie Tuesday is my favorite day of the week. Here are this week’s releases as well as my recommendations.

Being the film snob I am, I will recommend the Blu Ray versions of these flicks if available.

MUST BUY

District 9

This is the best original Sci-Fi movie in the past 10 years.  Exciting, full of ideas and wholly original.  Read my review HERE.  If you’re a fan of good Sci-Fi or good movies in general, you should buy this movie! (Buy on Amazon, Rent on Netflix)

500 Days of Summer

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel shine in this unconventional romantic comedy that is easily one of the best movies of the year. (Buy from Amazon, Rent from Netflix)

RENT IT

It Might Get Loud [Blu-ray] $17.99 I’ve heard this is one of the best Rock Documentaries ever made. Worth a rental and possibly a buy. (Buy on Amazon, Rent on Netflix)	Family Guy Presents: Something Something So… $18.99 If you liked the first Family Guy Star Wars spoof, you’ll probably like this. Me…I’m over Family Guy. Here’s the first full trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s District 9. OK, I’m fully interested now. The teaser was pretty sweet. This is pretty epic.

Plot Synopsis:

An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology.

Above is the short film, Alive in Joburg directed by  Neill Blomkamp. This inspired the full length feature District 9.  It’s pretty amazing.  Check it out.

2009 looks like a pretty good year for Science Fiction! District 9 will hit theaters on August 14th 2009.
