A “documentary” has had a super secret screening with studio heads, including Harvey Weinstein.  The subject: Joaquin Phoenix.  The word? Super hush hush.

His antics took the media by storm just about a year ago when Joaquin Phoenix announces his pursuit of a Rap career and retirement from acting.  Most of us laughed it off at first as a publicity stunt, or practical joke.  But, the more we saw Joaquin in public, the more unsure we were.

Enter Casey Affleck, Phoenix’s brother-in-law.  He announced he was going to document Joaquin’s ascent into the Rap world.  More skepticism about the legitimacy of Joaquin Phoenix’s pursuit of rap surfaced.  Then, the David Letterman interview occurred.  It was official, I believed Phoenix had lost his mind and was about to let his career self destruct.

And so we all laughed at his expense.  David Letterman’s interview seeped into the collective conscience as a jewel in 2009 Pop Culture History.  Just as we’ve all forgot about this little dent in pop culture, The Unnamed Joaquin Phoenix Documentary, directed by Casey Affleck emerges in a super secret screening.  Is it a “mockumentary?” No official word is out.

I can officially speculate that IF this was all an act by Joaquin Phoenix, he is a genius.  I’m 98% positive that is the case, and if so Casey Affleck can have comic GOLD on his hands for his directorial debut.
