John Carter (2012)

The marketing campaign for John Carter was sorely botched by Disney. What I saw on the screen was a fantastic otherworldly fun & action-packed film.
It's a shame that the movie won't come away this weekend a big hit, however I'm sure that word-of-mouth is going to help John Carter stick around.
Eye-popping special effects, a well-written script, and a sense of fun and adventure help elevate John Carter above some of the more generic aspects of the story. When it's all said and done the spectacle is well worth the wait and I really hope that Andrew Stanton is able to complete this trilogy.
John Carter is what the Star Wars prequels should've been. In fact I don't think I'll ever watch the Star Wars prequels ever again after this.
Planet Of The Vampires (1965)

First of all, the HD transfer on Netflix is pretty stellar. I was expecting a dirty and jittery picture, but this 1965 film looked stellar.
There is nothing new to the plot of PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES. A group of astronauts goes after a fellow spacecraft and their crew as they crash on an alien world. But the longer they are on the planet, the more they uncover a deadly secret!
As with older films, it takes a while for this one to get going, but once it does it's pretty awesome.

Another flick that got raked through the coals when it was released. I actually dug it. Some great effects and a decent mash-up story. I do think the tone is way too serious. There should have been more fun and adventure injected into the script. If it had the energy of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK it would have been a much better film.

It's amazing that this was made back in 1993. The CGI effects hold up beautifully and are better than most CGI seen in today's rushed productions.
