The Searchers (1956)
I consider The Searchers to be John Wayne's best film and one of my favorite Westerns of all time. Having only seen this on VHS at my grandpa's house, I was stunned at the clarity and color of the Blu Ray. It's a wonderful transfer.
The Searchers isn't some goofy Western. It's actually a very well written revenge tale of a Confederate Soldier who goes after the Indians who murdered his family. John Wayne is at his best here and worth checking out if you've never seen it.

The best way to spread Christmas Cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.

Millennium (1989)
Yikes, this hasn't aged well. It's pretty laughable. Kris Kristofferson is still the man, though.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Sleepy Hollow is the last good Tim Burton movie (with the exception of Sweeney Todd). It also began the trend of Tim Burton using Jonny Depp in EVERY SINGLE TIM BURTON MOVIE (well, not every one. But a whole hell of a lot!).
It's also interesting that the special effects here look just as good, if not better, than many current movies' special effects. Which shows that too much CGI is a bad thing. But combining minimal CGI touches to practical effects makes for a more timeless movie.
Anyway, I love this movie. It has some problems (what's Casper Van Dien doing in this movie?), but there is much more to like than complain about.

Dark City (1998)
Dark City surprised me so much when I first saw it in 1998. I haven't really been surprised like that since. Such a good movie and still holds up today.

Forbidden Planet (1956)
I've watched Forbidden Planet countless times since I was a kid, so I decided to see what my kids would think of it. They both loved my favorite scene, the invisible monster scene (they marveled at the footprints) and they loved Robbie the Robot.
The Blu Ray transfer is pretty special, also. Looks absolutely amazing.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)
The comedy world is a bit less funny now that Leslie Nielsen has passed. The Naked Gun is in my top 10 comedies of all time and seemed an appropriate choice to watch and remember such a gifted actor.
Also, it's interesting to watch a spoof movie back when spoof movies were clever.
