17 years after the horrible stand-off between the FBI and the Branch Dividians in Mt. Caramel, TX, a feature length movie will finally be made based on the events that unfolded ending in the deaths of 81 civilians. The film will be titled Waco.
Rupert Wainwright (Stigmata, The Fog remake) has co-written a script with investigative journalist James Hibberd, using Waco: The Rules of Engagement director Michael McNulty as a consultant. Hollywood heavyweights Kurt Russell, Sharon Stone and Adrian Brody are already attached to the project.
Wainwright gave Production Weekly some insight on the film’s plot:
“[We'll be] cutting between ATF special agents, FBI Negotiators, the Davidians on the inside, the tactical Hostage Rescue Team leaders, and the political machinations in Washington DC.”
I think the politics and events of the 51-day siege and the dramatic conclusion will make for compelling drama and hopefully give us some eye-opening insight to the situation. As most “based on actual event” movies, there will be dramatizing and fictionalizing, but I feel that this event is something that we should always remember.
I’m not sure about the director, his track record doesn’t show he’s capable of a movie like this. Also, the movie’s title of Waco just seems too generic.
As more info comes up about this, I’ll be sure to post it.

There were enough survivors to get the real scoop on the inside perspective correct, which will be interesting to see. Yes, a horrific and completely avoidable event.
