In the year 2056 – the not so distant future – an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. In a world where surgery addicts are hooked on painkilling drugs and murder is sanctioned by law, a sheltered young girl searches for the cure to her own rare disease as well as information about her family’s mysterious history. After being sucked into the haunting world of GeneCo, she is unable to turn back, as all of her questions will be answered at the wildly anticipated spectacular event: The Genetic Opera.

Review:

First of all, Repo! The Genetic Opera is not for everyone. This isn’t a musical, it’s an Opera. Practically every line of dialogue is sung, much like Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street but even more. So, if that’s not your bag, than Repo! The Genetic Opera may not be for you. However, if you’re daring and are willing to give Repo! The Genetic Opera a chance you won’t be disappointed!

Repo! The Genetic Opera is a feast for the eyes and ears. Think The Rocky Horror Picture Show mixed with Blade Runner and you’ll get a good feeling for what you’re about to embark on. This is a 21st century Rock Opera with great music, dazzling visuals and some great gore effects thrown in.

I don’t want to give much more away. This is a movie you’ll want to watch with a group of like minded friends and the less you know going in, the more fun you’ll have. I can’t wait to watch Repo! The Genetic Opera again and am even going to seek out the soundtrack.

It’s a shame that Lionsgate balked at giving this a wide release. This is a film I wish I could have seen in a Theater with a large group of people. But, if this film continues to take traction, we’ll be seeing midnight showings for years and years to come.

Rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, language, some drug and sexual content.
